1. If my home or business gets flooded, what should I do first?
If you attend your house or business to find that it has been flooded the first thing you should do is secure the area to ensure the safety of yourself and those who have attended the property. If you can, you should then switch off the electricity at the mains if there has been a severe flooding event indoors with lots of water saturation. This is to ensure the safety of yourself and others who attend the property to commence remediation works. The next thing you can do if it is safe to do so, is to remove any of your personal belongings that have been unaffected by water from the area. If the area is easy to manage you can also use towels to absorb as much water from the water damaged area as you can, so that when a professional water damage specialist attends the water saturation is reduced.
2. How do you approach water damage and drywall repair?
Flooding of structural elements such as sub floors, ceiling and walls can have serious consequences if they are not fully dried, including permanent weakness, collapse, and long-term mould and mildew problems causing offensive odours. We ensure that surfaces and subsurface are completely dry by monitoring with specialised equipment before restoring floors, walls, ceilings and any other damaged elements, such as built in cupboards and dry walls. Dry walls are particularly susceptible to water damaged-induced weakness and collapsing given its lighter structure and permeability to water. For this reason, we first assess the moisture level after the water damage event and after. Based on this we will employ the correct technicians to repair the dry wall or recommend replacement dry wall work if need be.
3. Is water damage covered by home insurance?
For water damage accidents including flooding from a burst pipe, a malfunctioning washing machine, broken gutters, overflowing rivers and general water damage accidents that can occur within a property, home insurance will cover it. As a general rule any accidental water damage to your property will be covered by insurance. When you make a claim and you have Kleen-Tech remediating your property, we’ll make sure we help you every step of the way. We will provide the assessment and documentation the insurance company requires. Rest assured we will make the process as easy as possible.
4. What if there is water damage and I’m not insured?
If you are not insured, you will probably be personally liable for the cost of repairs. If this is the case, Kleen-Tech will stand by you and help you to work out a way of paying for the restoration. We know times can be tough and we won’t leave you in the lurch. With all sorts of degrees of water damage along with accidental flooding, we understand that it can be a stressful time. This is why we will work together with you directly to ensure the work is done and we find a viable method for payment for the water damage remediation works.
5. How will you dry and restore my fitted carpets?
If the carpet can be saved, we usually lift it and dry it, often from both sides and the same time (a process called float drying). If the underlay can be dried, we do that too, otherwise the wet underlay is removed and replaced. When the carpet is dry, it is stretched to compensate for any shrinkage, and then re-laid by our professional carpet layers. Finally, we deep steam clean the carpet, deodorise it and treat for mildew. It will then look as good as it did before it was flooded. With over twenty years experience in drying and restoring fitted carpets after an unexpected flooding, we’ll know how to get the job done effectively and within a timely manner.
